PRIVATE GEORGE ADAMS

George Edward Adams was the son of Edward Adams and Harriett Fearn. 

GEAdamsSnapCensus returns for 1881 show Harriett as a seventeen year old dairymaid employed by Mr William Matthews of Repton, a farmer, farming 290 acres. 

In 1888 Harriett married Edward Adams in St Michael's Church, Willington. 

Census returns for 1891 show Edward and Harriett living in Willington village.

Mary Elizabeth, their daughter, married Joseph Kendrick, in 1912, and had five children, Hilda, Gertrude, George, Nora and Gladys. Gladys, now Mrs Twigg, gave me the photographs of her uncles, George and Thomas, at St Helen's Church, Etwall, during Well-Dressing Weekend, 2007.

George is buried in the cemetery at Corbie, 15 kilometres east of Amiens, in Northern France.

The majority of the officers and men buried here died of wounds suffered in the Battle of the Somme, 1916.
